The world’s first crowdfunded football club takeover

In 2007, 32,000 MyFootballClub members from over 120 countries came together to buy Ebbsfleet United Football Club, in the fifth tier of English football.

The highs and lows

MyFootballClub members put over £1,000,000 into the club, and voted on key decisions, including transfer budgets, selling players, ticket prices, kit design and more.

There were highs, including winning the FA Trophy at Wembley in 2008 for the first time in the club’s history.

But losing members annually made ownership unsustainable, so shares were gifted to the club’s supporters in 2013 and a new owner was found.
